What Is This Blog?
The Sydney Taylor Shmooze is a mock award blog created to
encourage discussion of books eligible for the Sydney Taylor Book Award
over the course of the year. The purpose
is to grow awareness of the criteria for the Award and to help readers
critically consider Jewish literature for youth.
We review books according to the official award criteria as the year goes along. At the end of the year, there is a vote to determine the winners of the Mock Sydney Taylor Book Award.
The blog is a project of the Association of Jewish Libraries but is not reflective of the views of the Real Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, whose selections are announced at the ALA Midwinter Meeting Youth Media Awards. Current members of AJL's Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee are not permitted to review or vote for books at The Sydney Taylor Shmooze. The Award Committee has delegated all responsibility for this blog to non-voting past chairs.
