About
The Sydney Taylor Shmooze
The Sydney Taylor Shmooze blog was created in 2020 to educate the public about the Sydney Taylor Book Award and to create a public venue for the critical discussion of Jewish children's literature. This blog is a review source, evaluating juvenile books of Jewish interest that are eligible for the Sydney Taylor Book Award. A dedicated team of volunteers reviews nearly every Jewish book published each year, from board books through young adult literature. The blog is managed and edited by past Chairs of the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, Susan Kusel, Chava Pinchuck, and Heidi Rabinowitz. More About Us
The Sydney Taylor Book Award
The Sydney Taylor Book Award is presented annually by the Association of Jewish Libraries to outstanding books for children and teens that authentically portray the Jewish experience. It is the only award to focus solely on Jewish children's literature. It is sponsored by Jo Taylor Marshall, daughter of Sydney Taylor, who also sponsors the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award for unpublished Jewish works for ages 8-12.
More Jewish Books
At The Sydney Taylor Shmooze, we evaluate any book that may be eligible for the award - that is, juvenile books with Jewish content. We hope that bringing attention to these books will grow the market and expand the genre. Authors, if you want to be a part of this lofty goal, please take note of our Wish List: Jewish Books We'd Like to See Published
